Getting Rid of the Cloudy Stuff

PDFPrintE-mail

We’ve been seeing a lot of cloudy skies in the area lately, so the last thing that you want to see when you look at your pool is cloudy water.  If the rain we’ve received over the last few weeks has turned your pool’s previously beautiful water cloudy, we have a few tips for clearing it up.

(No, it’s not too late in the season to do this.  Remember, we can get some pretty hot spells in mid-September.)

Back to cloudy water: BioGuard has a couple of products that can help. The new Burn Out 3 shock treatment is 23 percent stronger than BioGuard’s previous Burn Out formulations, so it quickly oxidizes the organic contaminants that can cause cloudy water.  (And no matter how thoroughly you tried to clean any leaves, twigs or similar stuff out of your pool, you know that there are some small remnants remaining.)

If you’re already using the BioGuard 3-Step, Once-a-Week 3-Step, or Pool Pods program for your pool care, BioGuard recommends using Burn Out 35 to clear up the cloudiness.

Filters have had a pretty good workout, too, so you may want to try cleaning your filter with either Strip Kwik, which removes oil and grease, or with Kleen It, a cleaning agent designed specifically for D.E. (diatomaceous earth) filters.  Kleen It will handle remove metals, dirt and scale from your filter.

Speaking of D.E. filters—they’re another excellent way to clear up your cloudy water problem.  D.E. filters can remove particles as small as 5 microns from your pool water, according to Pentair.  It compares D.E. filters to sponges that let the water flow through while trapping microscopic impurities.  That makes D. E. filters a good choice not only for cleaning up the tiny dirt and debris that’s been left behind in your pool by Hurricane Isabelle and Tropical Storm Lee but also for handling the every day impurities that swimmers (and Mother Nature) bring into your pool water.

With cooler weather closing in, you don’t want to miss one of these last precious days in your pool.  So give us a call or stop by and we’ll help you get your water crystal clear again so you’re ready to swim when those hot days of Indian Summer hit.
